Being a mama is hands down the best thing in the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. Every mama needs a little (or a lot of) help sometimes.
Take breastfeeding. When it comes to breastfeeding, most Australian mamas plan to give it a go. There's lots of research telling us that the list of the benefits of breastfeeding is long, for both baby and mama. A huge 96% of us start breastfeeding, but by the time our babies are 5 months old, less than a quarter of babies are exclusively breastfed. There’s no doubt about it - breastfeeding is a challenge for many. And a lack of solutions, support, information, and plain old help doesn’t make it any easier.
“Babies and mothers worldwide are being failed by a lack of investment in breastfeeding.”
World Health Organisation, 2017
We know firsthand that breastfeeding isn’t always a walk in the park. That’s why Lactamo came to be. Our founder, Etta, is a mama of 4 young children, but before becoming a mum breastfeeding wasn't even on her radar as a potential difficulty. Etta thought: since it's natural, it'll be easy. Etta wasn't aware of the significant benefits of breastfeeding and hoped to breastfeed for as long as possible.

MEET ETTA

However, Etta experienced all the highs and lows of the breastfeeding rollercoaster as she struggled breastfeeding all four children and felt like a failure - right at the start of motherhood.
"I was so disappointed with the lack of solutions to help with common breastfeeding problems and with the lack of support and education, and I was determined to do something about it."
Understanding the importance of breastfeeding, not just to the mum and baby but also to the economy, Etta resolved to help other breastfeeding mums, not just in Australia but globally, to give them a better chance of success and a better experience than she had had (if breastfeeding is their choice).
Her mission is simple - to give mothers the support they need and deserve. Today, Lactamo unites and supports mamas around the world, from Australia to India, the UK, the USA, New Zealand and beyond.

We’ve teamed up with experts to make your breastfeeding journey better

Etta drew on her 15 years of experience as a corporate professional and pulled together a team of experts in 2019 with a mission of developing a solution to help women. That's when Lactamo was created!
Lactamo is IP protected, multi award-winning, world first in breastfeeding. Described by leading lactation consultants as a "game-changer".

The importance of breast massage

Scientific studies recommend breast massage and the combination of temperature, movement and compression to address the most of common breastfeeding issues.

Breast massage using the three components (temperature, movement and compression) have the ability to:

  • improve blood circulation
  • facilitate lymph drainage
  • improve the quality of breastmilk

How does Lactamo work?

Lactamo has been specially designed with every breastfeeding mama’s individual needs in mind.

Lactamo is covered in a mix of solid and hollow lumps, some larger, some smaller, allowing you to find the right firmness and pattern of movement to help your personal breastfeeding needs. And because all breasts need to be treated with care, Lactamo’s (medical grade) silicone outer and gel inside are super-duper soft, even after they’ve been chilled in the freezer. And when we say soft, we mean it – Lactamo is as soft as a marshmallow.

Your breastfeeding needs will change as your baby grows, which is where Lactamo’s versatile design comes in handy. With Lactamo’s different textures and levels of firmness you can use it to suit your specific needs and preferences. Lactamo is here to support you during those sensitive times (and all the way through your entire breastfeeding journey).

We’re not a fan of nasties (and we know you’re not either), which is why the outside of Lactamo is crafted from 100% medical grade silicone and we’ve used a non-toxic gel (a common food additive) inside. Lactamo is included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (371782) as a Class 1 Medical Device. After all, nothing is more important than your and your baby’s health and safety.
