Being a mama is hands down the best thing in the world, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. Every mama needs a little (or a lot of) help sometimes.
Take breastfeeding. When it comes to breastfeeding, most Australian mamas plan to give it a go. There's lots of research telling us that the list of the benefits of breastfeeding is long, for both baby and mama. A huge 96% of us start breastfeeding, but by the time our babies are 5 months old, less than a quarter of babies are exclusively breastfed. There’s no doubt about it - breastfeeding is a challenge for many. And a lack of solutions, support, information, and plain old help doesn’t make it any easier.
“Babies and mothers worldwide are being failed by a lack of investment in breastfeeding.”
World Health Organisation, 2017
We know firsthand that breastfeeding isn’t always a walk in the park. That’s why Lactamo came to be. Our founder, Etta, is a mama of 4 young children, but before becoming a mum breastfeeding wasn't even on her radar as a potential difficulty. Etta thought: since it's natural, it'll be easy. Etta was aware of the significant benefits of breastfeeding and hoped to breastfeed for as long as possible.
Meet Etta
However, Etta experienced all the highs and lows of the breastfeeding rollercoaster as she struggled breastfeeding her children and felt like a failure - right at the start of motherhood.
"I was so disappointed with the lack of solutions to help with common breastfeeding problems and with the lack of support and education, and I was determined to do something about it.
Understanding the importance of breastfeeding (not just to the mum and baby but also to the health system and the economy) Etta resolved to help other breastfeeding mums, not just in Australia but globally, to give them a better chance of success and a better experience than she had had (if breastfeeding is their choice).
Her mission is simple: to give mothers the support they need and deserve. Today, Lactamo unites and supports mamas around the world, from Australia to India, the UK, the USA and beyond.

Etta drew on her 15 years of experience as a corporate professional and pulled together a team of experts in 2019 with a mission of developing a solution to help women. That's when Lactamo was created!
